Theresa Beattie
The first Dance UK Industry Award was presented as part of the Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards at Sadlers Wells on 13 January to Theresa Beattie, Director of Artist Development at The Place.
Theresa developed the Community and Education department at Sadler’s Wells Theatre then moved to the South Bank Centre where she became Dance Producer. She subsequently worked freelance with London Arts, Dance UK and Dance Umbrella directing the first Woking Dance Umbrella. She was Director of Artist Development at The Place for ten years creating Associate Artist schemes, the Choreodrome research project, screen dance initiatives and feedback schemes and producing the inaugural Place Prize.
Theresa undertook maternity cover for the Head of Dance at Arts Council England, London in 07/08 and 08/09, managed the ACE South East dance portfolio short-term and worked as part-time Senior Dance Strategy Adviser for ACE 09/10. She now works freelance and her clients include the Royal Opera House; National Dance Network; ResCen at Middlesex University; Akademi, DTAP and Step Out Arts.
Theresa also delivers advice sessions and workshops for choreographers, dancers, teachers and dance managers.
