His work has been performed in the UK and abroad by ensembles including Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Britten Sinfonia, CHROMA, Curious Chamber Players, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Psappha and Royal Northern Sinfonia, and by soloists including Mary Wiegold, Chris Redgate and Roderick Williams. He recently completed a PhD in composition at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where he studied with Simon Hall and Edwin Roxburgh, as well as masterclasses with Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Karin Rehnqvist and Mark-Anthony Turnage. In 2014, Edmund’s orchestral piece ‘Argatnél’ was premiered by London Philharmonic Orchestra at Queen Elizabeth Hall, London. Recent projects have included a short chamber opera composed during the Jerwood Opera Writing Foundation course at Aldeburgh, and a chamber opera for singers, instrumental ensemble and electronics, based on poetry in early Irish, Welsh and English. Much of Edmund’s music is inspired by mediaeval literature, exploring the use of early texts area through the creation of vocal, instrumental and electronic works. In 2017–18, Edmund is composing a new choral work that will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 in January 2019, as part of the ‘Adopt A Composer’ scheme (run by Making Music in partnership with Sound and Music and in association with BBC Radio 3). Edmund is currently the Apprentice Composer at Wigmore Hall, London.
