Malcolm Sutherland
Malcolm Sutherland completed his dance education from 2004 to 2007 at Central School of Ballet. After a year as an apprentice with Ballet Basel, Malcolm was hired for the 2008-2009 season as a member of Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballet under the directorship of Goyo Montero. Malcolm spent 7 successful years with Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballet, working with Jiri Kylian, Nacho Duato, Ohad Naharin, Mats Ek, Johan Inger, Crystal Pite, Mauro Bigonzetti, Cayetano Soto, Douglas Lee and Goyo Montero. From a young age, Malcolm developed a strong interest in choreography, winning the CSB choreographic prize in 2007. During his time with Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballet, Malcolm continued to develop his choreographic practice, creating 3 pieces for the young choreographers evening. Malcolm was a finalist at The Burgos/New York Choreography Competition in 2015 with his piece Man in the Infinite. In August 2015, Malcolm decided to leave Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballet to pursue his career as a freelance choreographer and dancer. Since then Malcolm has created two full-length productions for the Tafelhalle, Nürnberg; Vivaldi Verses (2016) and Under the Knife (2017). In January 2017 Malcolm created a new piece Shelf Life for the Interdans festival in Belgium and In April 2017, Malcolm created and performed at the Stalker Teatro in Torino as part of its residency programme in his new work A dance with the devil. In January 2018, Malcolm presented a new work Lost for Words at Resolution festival and recently premiered his new piece Greed with the company at Theater St Gallen, Switzerland.
